CAPE GIRARDEAU, April 21, 2014 – The Southeast Missouri Symphony Board and Symphony Society will hold the Sixth Annual Gala Pre-Concert Dinner at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, in the John and Betty Glenn Convocation Center on the River Campus of Southeast Missouri State University.
The dinner will feature five elegant courses and will precede the “Harmonie” Mass concert at 7:30 p.m. that evening in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall. The Gala Dinner helps support Symphony Society Scholarship Funds for deserving symphony students at Southeast Missouri State University.
The Southeast Missouri Symphony’s Annual Gala Dinners have provided crucial funding for a variety of worthwhile projects. The Gala Dinners provide essential resources for the Southeast Missouri Symphony’s recent tours to China in 2009 and to the East Coast in 2013. Additional funds have been raised to provide partial scholarship assistance for a number of University students in the Southeast Missouri Symphony, enabling those students to develop their musical skills and training at Southeast.
“The Symphony Scholarships have been very helpful in attracting and retaining talented symphony students at Southeast Missouri State University,” said Sara Edgerton, professor of music at Southeast and conductor of the Southeast Missouri Symphony. “I am very grateful for the enthusiasm and assistance that the community has provided Southeast Missouri State University by supporting the University symphony’s touring and scholarship programs. Please come and join us for this memorable evening of elegant food and wonderful music.”
