413 Student Projects Explore Scientific Questions at Regional Science Fair

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Missouri, March 2, 2016 – The work of 565 students from 41 area high schools and junior high schools will be displayed at the 60th Annual Southeast Missouri Regional Science Fair March 8 in the Show Me Center at Southeast Missouri State University.

The fair will feature 413 different displays – 351 in the Junior Division and 62 in the Senior Division. Participating students have explored scientific questions in the behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, botany, chemistry, earth and space science, engineering, environmental science, math and computer science, medicine and health, microbiology, physics and zoology.
Judging will begin at 1 p.m. Exhibits in the Science Fair will be open for public viewing from 3:30 to 9 p.m., with an awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m.

Dr. Chris McGowan, dean of the College of Science, Technology and Agriculture at Southeast, serves as the fair’s director.

“The Science Fair allows students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to conduct an independent research project. On the day of the fair, the students present their projects to be judged,” McGowan said.

Participating schools in the Junior Division will be: Advance R – IV, Bernie Junior High, Cape Christian, Delta R-V Junior High, Immaculate Conception-Jackson, Jackson Junior High, Kelso C-7, Leopold R-3, Malden R-1,Marquand-Zion, Neelyville R-IV, North Pemiscot, Oak Ridge R-VI Junior High, Richland R-1 Junior High, Scott City Middle School, South Pemiscot Junior High, St. Ambrose School-Chaffee, St. Denis-Benton, St. Joseph School-Scott City, St. Teresa-Campbell, St. Vincent de Paul-Cape Girardeau, St. Vincent-Perryville, Ste. Genevieve Middle School, T.S. HillMiddle School- Dexter, Trinity Lutheran- Cape Girardeau, Twin Rivers-Fisk Middle School and Twin Rivers-Qulin.

Participating schools in the Senior Division will be: Bernie Senior High, Cape Central High School, Clearwater Senior High School, Dexter Senior High, Deyoung Homeschool, Jackson R-2 Senior High, Kennett Senior High, Malden R-1 High School, Marquand-Zion High School, Oak Ridge High School, Portageville Senior High School, Richland High School, Saxony Lutheran High School and South Pemiscot High School.
