CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Oct. 13, 2009 – The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Shane Mizicko, will present its annual fall concert at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus.
In the first half of the percussion extravaganza, traditional drum works will be performed, such as Christopher Rouse’s “Ogoun Badagris” and Nebojsa Zivkovic’s “Trio per Uno.” These traditional drum works will then be juxtaposed against a mallet arrangement of William Byrd’s late Renaissance work, “The Bells.”
Frederic Rzewski’s avant-garde work, “Coming Together” and Lou Harrison’s “Concerto for Violin with Percussion Orchestra,” featuring violin soloist Dr. Brandon Christensen also will be heard.
The first half of the concert will conclude with Christopher “Tambu” Herbert’s “Rant and Rave,” using double second steel drums which is the newest instrument in Southeast’s percussion area.
The 36-member drum line and front ensemble of the Golden Eagles Marching Band will perform in the second half of the evening as they showcase portions of their 2009 season repertoire.
Tickets are available now at the River Campus Box Office for $8. Student tickets with a student I.D. are $3. Call the River Campus Box Office for more information at (573) 651-2265.
