Austin D. Cordell Appointed as Student Regent to Southeast Board of Regents

Cordell AustinCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 19, 2014 –Austin D. Cordell of Chesterfield, Mo., was appointed effective immediately by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon to a two-year term as the student regent on the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents.  Cordell replaces Kevin Magnan of Festus, Mo., whose term on the Board expired. Cordell’s term runs through Jan. 1, 2016.

Cordell, the son of Carla and John Cordell, is a junior at Southeast with double majors in accounting and criminal justice.  A member of the University’s Honors College, he has been named to the Dean’s List every semester since he began at Southeast in 2012.

“We want to thank Kevin Magnan for his outstanding service to our University as the student regent,” said the president of Southeast Missouri State University, Dr. Kenneth. W. Dobbins.

“We are very pleased that Austin will fill Kevin’s board slot.  He has been very active on the Southeast campus, and we know he will do a great job representing Southeast students.”

Cordell has received several awards as a Southeast student, including the Greek Life New Member of the Year and the Residence Hall Association First-Year Student of the Year.  He is a member of Presidential Ambassadors and Delta Chi Fraternity, where he serves as executive secretary and chair of the scholarship committee.  Additionally, he serves as a senator in Student Government for the College of Health and Human Services.

He serves on several University committees, including Funding for Results, Parking Citation Appeals, and the Honors College Review Committee.  He is a facilitator and treasurer for the Emerging Leaders Program, serves as a justice on the Inter-Fraternity Council Judicial Board, and is a member of the Southeast Criminal Justice Association.

Cordell is a graduate of the North American Interfraternity Conference Futures Quest Leadership Summit, and was named the Most Outstanding Explorer at the Greater St. Louis Area Law Enforcement Exploring Academy.
