Bequest to Provide $129,450 in Scholarships for Mississippi County Students

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

June 10, 2010 – The Southeast Missouri University Foundation has received a $129,450 bequest from the Eugenia Bush trust to provide scholarships for high school graduates from Mississippi County.

Eligible students will have graduated from high school in Mississippi County, be academically qualified and have financial need.

Bush, a lifelong resident of Mississippi County, Missouri, died Oct. 31 at the age of 90. Bush and her husband, Bob Bush, operated Budget Laundry in East Prairie, Mo., for many years.

Mrs. Bush was active in her community with a number of civic organizations. She also volunteered as an organist for her church and for McMikle’s Funeral Homes in Charleston, Mo.

Mrs. Bush was a dedicated volunteer at the Charleston Nutrition Center, and a bequest from Mrs. Bush’s Trust was used by the Nutrition Center to pay off the loan on its building.

Mrs. Bush also made bequests to the following charities:  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Masonic Home of Missouri, American Cancer Society, Missouri Delta Medical Center Foundation (for dialysis unit), American Heart Association, Charleston Kiwanis Club (for its college scholarship fund) and the American Diabetes Association.
