CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Dec. 19, 2006 — Dr. Dale F. Nitzschke, who served as president of Southeast Missouri State University from 1996 until 1999, is now the University’s president emeritus.

The Board of Regents conferred that honorary title on Nitzschke Friday during a closed session at Dempster Hall on the Southeast campus.

When he left the presidency in June 1999, Nitzschke was given the honorary title of “Chancellor for Development of the River Campus and the Polytechnic Institute,” partly in order to support his continuing role of fund raising for the River Campus project and the University’s School of Polytechnic Studies. That title was abbreviated to “Chancellor Emeritus” in 2001, but the title Chancellor is not normally used at Southeast. Consequently, the Board determined that “President Emeritus” is a more appropriate recognition of Nitzschke’s relationship with the University.
