Cape County Transit Authority Now Servicing Southeast Campus

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 19, 2007 — The Cape County Transit Authority (CCTA) is now providing service to Southeast Missouri State University.

CCTA began making stops on the Southeast campus on Saturday, Sept. 15, since the University campus lies within the service area for CCTA’s east route to downtown Cape Girardeau, according to Beth Glaus, manager of parking and transit at Southeast. Cape County Transit operates bus service Monday through Friday, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., and on Saturdays, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.       Campus stops for the downtown East Route are located at Grauel, on Normal Avenue in front of Academic Hall, at the University Center, at Myers and behind Kent Library, Glaus said.  The service also makes a stop in front of Vandiver Hall on its return trip.  A transfer stop, located at Sprigg and William near the Save-A-Lot and Fred’s parking lot, allows passengers on the Downtown East Route to change buses and connect with CCTA’s Town Plaza/West Park Mall West Route.  Another transfer stop is located at Hastings Books in the Town Plaza for passengers to catch buses for their return trip to campus, she said.

Additional connecting stops with the CCTA bus lines are included along Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus shuttle route.  These stops are on Broadway at Ellis and on Spanish at Themis, Glaus said.  Students may ride the River Campus Shuttle to either of these stops and catch a CCTA Downtown East Route.  Additionally, students may use the River Campus shuttle to ride to the transfer stop at Sprigg and William, where passengers may catch CCTA’s west route towards the Town Plaza and West Park Mall areas, Glaus said.

Student fares for CCTA bus service is 75 cents a ride, with a Southeast ID, payable on the bus; however, a Redhawk Pass is available which provides one month’s unlimited fares on any CCTA line, she said.  The Redhawk Pass is $17.50 with a Student ID and must be purchased at the CCTA office.  Cape County Transit is located in Suite 200 at 937 Broadway, across from the Wehking Alumni Center and the Student Recreation Center-South.  More information is available from the CCTA Help Desk by calling (573) 335-5533, ext.10, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
