Cartwright, Young Receive Ira Meredith Memorial Scholarship to Attend SAHEC

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Nov. 14, 2003 – Michelle Cartwright of Benton Mo., and Marjie Young of Sikeston, Mo., have been awarded the Ira Meredith Memorial Scholarship at the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center (SAHEC), a satellite campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

This scholarship is to be applied towards incidental fees for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The Ira Meredith Memorial Scholarship is sponsored by the Sikeston Lions Club and is awarded to a resident of Sikeston enrolled full time at SAHEC.  The recipient must be of good moral character, maintain at least a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 if a recent high school graduate or 2.5 if currently enrolled in college courses.  All applicants are asked to submit an essay addressing why they deserve the scholarship.  Each recipient is awarded $500 for the academic year.

Cartwright is enrolled in the LPN/RN Bridge Program offered through SAHEC by Three Rivers Community College (TRCC), a partner with Southeast.  She maintains a GPA of 3.5 and expects to graduate in spring 2004.  She is employed by the Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Young also is enrolled in the LPN/RN Bridge Program and has a GPA of 3.6.  She expects to graduate in spring 2004 and aspires to become a registered nurse.
