CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Sept. 14, 2010 – To assist small businesses interested in developing their own Web presence and exploring online sales options, the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Southeast Missouri State University is offering a three-part technology series on Oct. 4, 6 and 18.

“Consisting of two webinars and one hands-on workshop, the CIE technology series makes it very convenient for small businesses to learn the steps necessary to develop a website and sell online,” said Gina Harper, training coordinator and incubator manager for the Center.

The first program in the series is an online webinar called “Business Website Considerations.”  With advance registration, participants can log on to the webinar from the comfort of their home or office computer during lunchtime beginning at noon on Oct. 4.  The one-hour webinar will explore options for developing business websites.

As a follow-up workshop, at 6 p.m. on Oct. 6, the CIE will offer a “Hands-On Website Development Lab” in Dempster Hall on the Southeast Missouri State main campus.  The hands-on workshop will allow participants to learn the steps and begin building a basic website for their companies.  To take this hands-on workshop, participants must have participated in the Oct. 4 webinar.

The final installation of the CIE technology series is “Selling Online,” a webinar scheduled at noon on Oct. 18. Participants will learn tips, techniques and methods to selling products and services via the internet.  Again, participants can log on for the online webinar from the comfort of their homes or businesses.

There is no cost to attend these workshops; however, pre-registration is required. Participants are encouraged to register as soon as possible. Call (573) 986-6084 for registration information or visit www.semo.edu/cie/training.  The workshops are underwritten in part by the U.S. Department of Labor – Employment Training Administration.

All three sessions in the technology series will be presented by Dr. Dana Schwieger, associate professor of accounting and management information systems. Besides helping to develop the workshops, Schwieger suggested the webinar and hands-on delivery format realizing that small businesses don’t always have a lot of time or money to invest in their Web presence.

“This series of classes provides an introduction to a low cost path to setting up a Web address, developing a Web site, and selling your products online,” Schwieger said.

The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship encourages small business owners to enroll in all three parts of the Technology Series to get a good overview for expanding their businesses.
