Commencement Tip Sheet

December commencement at Southeast Missouri State University is planned for 2 p.m. Dec. 20 in the Show Me Center.  An Honors Convocation is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Dec. 20, also in the Show Me Center.  Several candidates for graduation have reported interesting feature stories about themselves that could be developed in connection with commencement.  These story tips with contact names and phone numbers are listed below.  Students will begin assembling for commencement at 1:15 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.  The Southeast News Bureau is happy to make arrangements for you to meet and interview any of the graduates listed below between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 20 in the Student Recreation Center.  Please do not hesitate to call the News Bureau at (573) 651-2552 with any questions about these or other commencement stories.

B.J. “Billie” Crofford of Poplar Bluff, Mo., widow of the late Jack Crofford, will accept her husband’s diploma. Mr. Crofford, an agriculture major, was scheduled to receive a bachelor of science degree in agribusiness last May. He passed away about a week before spring commencement.

Kevin Pollock of Ironton, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in agribusiness/horticulture. Pollock had planned to graduate in spring 2004 after taking additional coursework to complete a minor. Pollock has been called to active duty with the Army National Guard’s 1140th Engineering Battalion. He must report to Perryville, Mo., Jan. 3, before heading to Fort Riley, Kan., for training prior to deployment. Caroline Harper of Jackson, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in education degree, majoring in elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education. Harper’s family has a history of attending Southeast.  She is the fifth and youngest person in her family to graduate from Southeast.  Her parents are Paul and Pam Harper of Jackson, Mo.  Caroline Harper can be reached at (573) 243-7293.

Shannel Bueltemann of Cape Girardeau, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in education degree, majoring in exceptional child. Bueltemann will be the first in her family to complete a college degree.  She was inspired by her nephew who has cerebral palsy to study education for exceptional children.  She is the daughter of Richard and Rose Bueltemann of Cape Girardeau.  Shannel Bueltemann can be reached at (573) 334-9976.

Aaron Froehlich of Ballwin, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in business administration degree with a minor in criminal justice. Froelich was the only student from Missouri chosen to participate last summer in the International Business Internship Exchange in Ghana, Africa, a program funded by the State of Missouri. He completed an internship at Cocoa Processing Company Limited (Cocoa), a chocolate factory in Ghana. For eight weeks, he was able to help establish some of the groundwork for transforming the company’s paper-based accounting system into an electronic format for Cocoa, a major chocolate exporter to U.S. companies such as Nestle and Godiva. Some of his daily responsibilities included troubleshooting, jump-starting computers and assisting the head MIS officer in resolving problems. He is the son of Gary and Jo Ann Froehlich of Ballwin. Taylor Goodale of Scott City, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in business administration degree with a major in integrated marketing communications. His family has a diploma in the pipe it was presented in around 1904 from the Southeast Missouri Normal School, the forerunner to Southeast Missouri State University. Rachael Riggins of Sikeston, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in business administration degree, majoring in finance and minoring in economics.  Riggins was able to complete her degree while balancing her family responsibilities. She started at Southeast in 1996 while pregnant with her first child.  Four years later, she had her second child over spring break.  Her third child came at the start of her senior year.  Rachael Riggins can be reached at (573) 472-9598.
