‘Convergentes’ First Friday Reception Comes to Catapult Creative House

The Gallery at Southeast Missouri State University’s Catapult Creative House will host a First Friday reception Aug. 4 from 5-9 p.m. for the exhibition “Convergentes,” a collection of prints from visiting artists Alejandra Mares, Juan José Huerta and Xavier Moreno from León, Mexico.

The exhibition will run through Sept. 28 and is part of a celebration of Hispanic Culture, corresponding, in part, with Hispanic Heritage Month Sept. 15-Oct. 15.

Throughout the months of August and September, Catapult will host a number of events to compliment the work of these talented artists:

Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. – Jerry Ford and his combo will play traditional and contemporary Latin music at Catapult.

Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. – Alejandra Mares, Juan José Huerta and Xavier Moreno will give an artist talk in the classroom at Catapult Creative House in conjunction with the First Friday reception.

Sept. 2 at 12:30 p.m. – Alejandra Mares, Juan José Huerta and Xavier Moreno will give a workshop in the letterpress studio of Catapult Creative House. They will be demonstrating DIY printing techniques, such as the use of a traditional tortilla press.

Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. – Department of Music faculty, Chris Goeke, voice, and Patrick Rafferty, guitar, and music students will perform Latin American songs in the gallery at Catapult Creative House

Sept. 21 at 6:30 p.m. – Hilary Peterson, associate professor of dance, and the Southeast Missouri Dance Ensemble will perform “A Suite from a Choreographic Offering” by José Limón and “About Nothing” by Victor Alexander and Maray Gutierrez.

These events are sponsored by Catapult Creative House, the Office of International Business Programs, the Department of Art and the Office of the President. Catapult Creative House is located at 612 Broadway in downtown Cape Girardeau.
