The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre & Dance and US Bank NA is proud to present the First Annual Faculty/Guest Artist-Choreographed Spring “Dance-apalooza 2008” Concert Feb. 28-March 2.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Feb. 14, 2008 – The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre & Dance and US Bank NA is proud to present the First Annual Faculty/Guest Artist-Choreographed Spring “Dance-apalooza 2008” Concert Feb. 28-March 2 at the River Campus.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28-March 1 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at the Cultural Arts Center located on the River Campus.

In addition to the Department of Theatre & Dance full-time faculty choreography of Lees Hummel, Hilary Peterson, Marc Strauss and the work of a senior Bachelor of Fine Art student, the four-day performance run of Dance-apalooza 2008 will be highlighted by three guest artist compositions: Philip Edgecombe, departmental instructor; Seán Curran, artistic director of the Seán Curran Dance Company in New York City (www.seancurrancompany.com); and Jeannie Hill, associate artistic director of the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project in Chicago (www.jrjp.org). Curran and Hill are guest choreographers provided by a grant from the Missouri Arts Council.

Dance styles as diverse as jazz, tap, modern and contemporary ballet will be performed to music as varied as Thom Yorke’s pop group Radiohead, protest and random breath recordings; the tango accordionist Astor Piazzolla; blues man Lucky Peterson; electronic and experimental hip hop musician DJ Spooky; Russian-born singer-songwriter-pianist Regina Spektor; Paris-centered French, Argentine, and Swiss musical group the Gotan Project; French composer-pianist Erik Satie; the King himself, Elvis Presley; and the Indiana-born bon vivante sophisticate, the wonderful Hollywood and Broadway composer-lyricist Cole Porter.
