Distinguished Military Officer to Speak at Weiss Lecture

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 17, 2004 — Chief Master Sergeant David Popp of Hickman Air Force Base, Hawaii, will present the annual Weiss Lecture Oct. 7 at Southeast Missouri State University.

The Weiss Lecture will be held at 7 p.m. in the University Ballroom and is sponsored by the Department of Communication.  The presentation is open to the public and free.

His presentation, titled “Being A Leader in the 21st Century,” will examine the importance of leadership and teambuilding for the new millennium.

Popp is a native of Jackson, Mo. and a graduate of Jackson High School.  He enlisted in the Air Force in July 1979 as an aerospace ground equipment mechanic.  Before serving in his current position, Popp was the command chief master sergeant of the 16th Air Force, Aviano Air Base, Italy.  He now serves the principal adviser to the PACAF commander on all enlisted issues regarding Hickman Air Force Base.

Popp has received numerous awards and honors, including the Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Air Force Achievement Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
