Dougans Endow Two Scholarships at Southeast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 6, 2010 — Neil and Dr. Alberta Dougan of Jackson, Mo., have endowed two scholarships through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

The Dougans, of Jackson, Mo., have established the Alberta Macke Dougan Social Studies Scholarship and the R. Neil Dougan Horticulture Scholarship. Dr. Dougan is a professor emerita of history at Southeast. Both scholarships are endowed at $10,000 each.

The Alberta Macke Dougan Social Studies Scholarship will be awarded to a full-time undergraduate student attending Southeast Missouri University University and majoring in social studies. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average entering their senior year at Southeast. Students with financial need will be given first preference.

The Department of History at Southeast, with the advice of the social studies coordinator, will select the recipient.

The R. Neil Dougan Horticulture Scholarship is a renewable scholarship that will be awarded to a full-time student attending Southeast Missouri State University and majoring in horticulture. The recipient must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Students with financial need will be given first preference.

A committee in Southeast’s Department of Agriculture will select the recipient.
