CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Nov. 7, 2008 – The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Music is proud to present its Fall Choral Concert, “Madrigals, Motets and More!” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Robert F. and Gertrude L. Shuck Music Recital Hall in the Seminary Building on Southeast’s River Campus.
“We have a young choir this semester, and I wanted to introduce them to a variety of styles,” said Steve Hendricks, director of choral activities and music education. “One of the Rossetti pieces the choir will perform is composed by Norman Dello Joio, an American composer who died earlier this year.”
As part of the performance, the Southeast University Choir and Cantus Choralis will feature English and Italian madrigals from the late 16th century, late-20th century motets appropriate for the season of Advent, French chansons by Francis Poulenc and Maurice Ravel, and contemporary musical settings of 19th century English poets Dante Gabriel Rossetti and his sister Christina Rossetti.
“We have music that explores everything from the joys of love to the comforting thoughts of leaving a loved one behind. We also have two pieces with monsters. You’ve got to love that!” Hendricks said.
