Fall Commencement Tip Sheet

Fall commencement at Southeast Missouri State University is planned for 2 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Show Me Center arena. Some candidates for graduation have reported interesting feature stories about themselves that could be developed in connection with commencement. These story tips with contact names and either phone numbers or e-mail addresses are listed below. Students will begin assembling for commencement at 1:15 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center-North. The Southeast News Bureau is happy to make arrangements for you to meet and interview any of the graduates listed below between 1:15 and 1:30 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Student Recreation Center-North. Dana Bailey of Cape Girardeau, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of arts degree with a major in English writing. Bailey has been working towards her degree for more than 20 years. Bailey can be reached at dbailey@semo.edu

Kristen Bundy of Jackson, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in education degree with a major in German education. Bundy is getting her second degree at Southeast. Jessica Diebold of Kelso, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in business administration degree with a major in marketing. Diebold was one of the first of four students in the Harrison College of Business to represent Southeast Missouri State University in an international business competition. This competition was held in Dublin, Ireland, in spring 2007. Southeast Missouri State University was the only University in the United States to make it to the finals. Jean Domagni of the Ivory Coast in Africa, will graduate with a bachelor of science degree with with majors in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and computer science. He is an international student who has completed the University Honors Program. Domagni can be reached at (573) 382-5460.

Jeremy Glastetter of Chaffee, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in industrial technology. Glastetter was on the team that created the design for the new Scully/Rhodes Plaza that is expected to be constructed in summer 2008. Glastetter can be reached at (573) 579-0019. 

Joseph Goff of Farmington, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in political science. Goff walked on to the Redhawks football team and has lettered and started for the Redhawks. Goff can be reached at (573) 760-9635.

Brittney Harris of Florissant, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in human environmental studies. Harris has Sickle Cell disease, and she says there is only a small percentage of people with this disease who ever finish college.  Harris can be reached at (314) 972-1587.

Sandy Heberlie of Perryville, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in recreation. Heberlie is 53 years old and has always worked full-time while attending college. She paid for her education by raising, training and then selling horses. Heberlie can be reached at (573) 547-7598

Jennifer Nedilnycky of Cape Girardeau, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in education degree with a major in elementary education and emphasis in early childhood development. Nedilnycky has an identical twin sister, Michelle Nedilnycky of Cape Girardeau, Mo., who is graduating with the same degree and major and who has the exact same grade point average. Sherri Payne of Sikeston, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science in education degree with a major in elementary education. Payne came back to college after being out of school for 20 years. She is the first to graduate from college in her family. Payne can be reached at (573) 703-3402.

Alan Spears of Jefferson City, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of general studies degree with a major in general studies. Spears first started college at Southeast in the spring of 1982 while he was still in high school. Thus, it has taken him 25 years to get to his graduation day. He took classes off and on over the years, but it wasn’t until he discovered the online program at Southeast the he committed to finishing his degree. Kara Lehann Sterling of Jackson, Mo., will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in interdisciplinary studies. She has a great grandmother, grandmother and a great aunt on her father’s side of the family who graduated from Southeast with education degrees. Holly Wallace of Caruthersville, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree in education with a major in elementary education. Wallace is the sixth person in her family to graduate with an education degree. Wallace can be reached at hjwallace1s@semo.edu.

Bobbie Whitney of Charleston, Mo., will graduate from Southeast with a bachelor of science degree with a major in human environmental studies and emphasis in child development. Whitney is the mother of four children. She waited until her first three children had graduated from high school before continuing her education. Her youngest is presently in the fifth grade.
