The tradition continues as Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Music presents the Percussion Ensemble’s Family Holiday Concert on Saturday, Dec. 10.
This annual event, geared towards families with young children, will take place in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus, where there will be two performances at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
In addition to music by the Southeast Percussion Ensemble, the event will feature Southeast’s Dancers United and Steel Drum Band as well as the Alma Schrader 4th Grade Choir and Dance Extensions Dance Studio performing excerpts from “The Nutcracker.”
The concert includes sing-alongs, slideshows, egg shakers and dancers with holiday favorites like “Frosty” and “Rudolph.” All the music is kid friendly, and popular songs like “Sleigh Ride,” “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” “Christmas Time is Here” and “The Polar Express” will be performed. The concert also will feature a fun and colorful rendition of “The Night Before Christmas.”
Shane Mizicko, professor of music and director of percussion, said repertoire for the concert will be “upbeat and exciting that even the most fidgety child would enjoy.”
“This year marks the ninth year for this concert, and if you have never been to this concert or taken your child to a concert hall before, this is an excellent opportunity to introduce them to a professional, yet kid friendly, concert experience,” Mizicko said.
