Fourth-Week Census Shows Spring Enrollment Up

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Feb. 15, 2006 – Southeast Missouri State University released its fourth week census report today, showing total combined undergraduate and graduate student headcount up 4.7 percent from spring 2005.

Today’s report shows combined undergraduate and graduate student headcount at 9,743, up from 9,308 at this time last year. Total enrollment grew by 861 from the end of the first full day of classes on Jan. 17 to the end of fourth week of spring semester classes on Feb. 10.

Total undergraduate student headcount is 8,371, up 7 percent from spring 2005. Fourth-week admissions reports show beginning freshmen headcount at 156, down 12.8 percent from this time last year. Continuing freshmen headcount is 1,784, up 11.2 percent from spring 2005. Sophomore headcount is 1,623, up 9.4 percent from this time last year. Junior headcount is 1,664, up 4.7 percent from spring 2005. Senior headcount is 2,318, up 3.9 percent from this time last year.

Total graduate student headcount is 1,372, down 7.7 percent from spring 2005. Degree-seeking master’s degree student headcount is 686, up 3.6 percent from this time last year. Specialists student headcount is 122, exactly the same figure as this time a year ago. Doctoral student headcount is 16, up 60 percent from spring 2005. Non-degree seeking master’s degree student headcount is 548, down 20.8 percent from this time last year.
