MALDEN, Mo., Aug. 8, 2014 – Southeast Missouri State University and the University Missouri Fisher Delta Research Center provided a furrow irrigated row rice workshop on Aug. 4 for area rice producers.
About 35 rice producers from Missouri, Arkansas and Mississippi attended the informational workshop.
The day allowed rice growers the opportunity to learn about implications for row rice, technologies for furrow irrigation of rice, and pump efficiencies and water conservation.
Speakers included Dr. Michael Aide, professor and chair of the Department of Agriculture at Southeast, John Hestor, agriculture engineer with the USDA-NRCS, and Dr. Joe Henneggler, irrigation specialist from the University of Missouri.
After the presentations, a tour of ongoing row rice field research was conducted by Dr. Donn Beighley, rice breeder and faculty member at Southeast, at the Missouri Rice Research Farm.
The Farm is located on Highway J in northern Dunklin County in Missouri.
