Girl Scouts, Southeast Gymnasts Teaming Up for ‘Girl Power’ Event

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Jan. 4, 2006 – Area Girl Scouts and Southeast Missouri State University’s gymnastics team will join forces for the Fourth Annual Girl Power event Jan. 13 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Events will begin at 2 p.m. at Houck Field House. Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to meet members of the Southeast gymnastics team at 2:15 p.m. and to participate in gymnastics from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

“We want the Girl Scouts to see what it’s like to be a collegiate athlete and to expose them to collegiate athletics,” said Tom Farden, head gymnastics coach.

From 3:30 to 6 p.m., scouts will rotate through Parker Gym, taking part in self-defense, archery and aerobics activities, and a pep rally. The scouts will eat dinner at Houck Field House from 6 to 7 p.m.

Capping the day will be the opportunity for the scouts to watch the Southeast gymnastics team in their season opener when they take on the University of Illinois-Chicago and Centenary College at 7 p.m. at Houck Field House.
