CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 13, 2012 – The Donald L. Harrison College of Business at Southeast Missouri State University recently launched a Master of Science degree program in Organizational Management (MSOM), which is geared toward managers and those seeking management positions who are currently in the workforce. The program is available face-to-face on campus and online as a Web-delivered program.

The program is especially suited for people who seek to improve performance in their current positions and advance to mid-level managerial positions but do not have an undergraduate degree in business administration.

“The program meets a previously unmet need for those without backgrounds in business and who want specialized management training in areas such as leadership, team performance, communication or human resources,” said Dr. Kenneth Heischmidt, director of graduate business programs and professor of marketing.

The program provides management knowledge appropriate for working within a business organization and enhances career options for those in other industries, including retail, financial services, transportation, health, advertising, non-profit, engineering and other technical areas.

The degree provides students with a broad managerial perspective. Electives allow students to focus on specific areas of management, including human resources or entrepreneurship.

The 30-hour program is built on a common core of 21 hours of general management courses. Students gain a basic understanding of management with special emphasis on application to the managerial decision-making process. Nine hours of elective courses are selected by students that focus on their areas of interest. The MSOM program can be completed in two years of part-time enrollment or one year of full-time enrollment.

Those admitted to the program must have previously earned a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 2.75 grade point average and have three years of appropriate full-time post-bachelor’s degree work experience.

The Donald L. Harrison College of Business is accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which is recognized worldwide as the leading accrediting body of graduate business programs.
