Harry Jefferson Bazzell Scholarship Endowed through Foundation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Jan. 9, 2004 – The Harry Jefferson Bazzell Scholarship has been endowed through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

Bazzell & Wilder, Inc., of Kennett, Mo., pledged gifts totaling $10,000 to establish the scholarship, which will be awarded to students attending the Kennett Area Higher Education Center (KAHEC).

Employees of Bazzell & Wilder and their children will be given first consideration for the scholarship. Second preference for the scholarship will be given to students from Dunklin County, Mo., or Clay County, Ark. If no qualified candidates exist, third preference will be given to a student majoring in agriculture at Southeast. Prior recipients will be considered for renewal of the scholarship, but must reapply each year.

Bazzell is the owner and manager of Bazzell & Wilder, Inc., and Piggott Tractor and Equipment in Piggott, Ark. He currently serves as senior advisor and store manager, setting the long-term strategy for the business and advising management team members of both dealerships.

Bazzell has a long history of experience and accomplishments in the farm machinery business. He began working in this career field in 1946 at Kirk Equipment in Paragould, Ark. In 1971, he purchased a John Deere implement dealership in Kennett, Mo. Under Bazzell’s leadership, the business has expanded and experienced an impressive growth in sales and services.

Bazzell’s great regard for higher education is demonstrated in his success strategy. He believes that a strong work ethic, coupled with an excellent education, is required to establish a solid foundation for future success.
