CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Oct. 30, 2007 – Joyce Hunter of Cape Girardeau has been named experiential learning coordinator at Southeast Missouri State University.

Hunter will begin her new duties Nov. 5.

“Joyce is well known in the business community of Southeast Missouri, and she is very knowledgeable about Southeast students and the internship opportunities available to them,” said Warren Skinner, assistant director for Career Linkages.

“I believe that every faculty and staff member plays a part in making Southeast Missouri State University the ‘University of First Choice,’ and Joyce is well suited for that role,” Skinner said.

As the experiential learning coordinator, Hunter will be the key Career Linkages staff member in students’ successful completion of internships, practica, or other pre-professional practice by carrying out a variety of duties. She will be responsible for developing and expanding relationships with employers for pre-professional practice opportunities; consulting regularly with deans, department chairpersons, and academic department liaisons about experiential learning opportunities and requirements in their units; acting as a primary resource for persons seeking information about internships and other pre-professional practice opportunities, whether students, faculty and staff, or employers, keeping the lines of communication open among all parties; and continually assessing the effectiveness of experiential learning efforts, collecting feedback from program leaders, students and employers.

Prior to joining Southeast’s Career Linkages team, Hunter was employed as the marketing director for Buchheit, Inc. of Perryville, Mo. She also has held several other positions during her career stretching nearly 30 years. She has served as marketing director for Westfield Group, Inc., including marketing director for Westfield Shoppingtown West Park and senior marketing director for West Park in Cape Girardeau and a Westfield shopping center in South County in St. Louis; circulation sales and customer relations manager for the Southeast Missourian; and director of marketing for First Federal Savings & Loans.

Hunter is a 1978 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She received a bachelor of science degree with majors in marketing management and psychology. She has served as a member of the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce University Relations Committee, International Council of Shopping Centers, Jackson Chamber of Commerce, American Banking Association and the American Red Cross Regional Advisory Committee. She is past president of the Tri-State Advertising and Marketing Professionals, a past officer with Toastmasters International T.G.I.F., a founding chapter member of the Jackson Noon Optimist, and a past Friends of Scouting co-chairman with the Shawnee Council Boy Scouts.

A welcome reception will be held for Hunter from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Career Linkages office, located in the University Center Room 206 at Southeast Missouri State University.
