IT Announces New ‘Appropriate Use’ Message on University-Owned Computers

On Monday, Nov. 20, Information Technology will begin posting the following message on all University-owned computers:

“WARNING! This computer system is the property of the Southeast Missouri State University and is provided for authorized use only in support of the educational, instructional, research, and administrative activities of the University. All activities on this system are subject to monitoring to ensure appropriate use, system performance and to protect university assets. Intentional misuse of this system can result in disciplinary action or criminal prosecution. By continuing to use this system, you indicate your awareness of and consent to these terms and conditions of use.”

The purpose of this message is to inform users of the consequences of unauthorized access and inappropriate use of Southeast computer resources. The message will appear before a user attempts to login to a University computer.

Exceptions

If using computers for self-service kiosks or to drive digital signage, please send an email to infotech@semo.edu with the name of the computer to exclude them. Note: At this time, the banner will not be displayed on mobile devices such as iPads or Chromebooks.
