CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 16, 2006 — “Jake Wells: Mills and Murals” will open at the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum on Friday, May 19 and continue until July 23.

The exhibit features twenty-seven original watercolor paintings that depict the nostalgic mills of Missouri along with a series of pen and ink gear studies done of the mill works. Also on display will be selected, preliminary sketches and the master color panels that Jake Wells completed before painting his 800 square foot mural in Kent Library.

Jake Wells, who died in 1999, was professor of art at Southeast Missouri State University and served as the Art Department chair from 1974 until his retirement in 1980.

The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum is located on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Memorial Hall.  Hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon to 4 p.m.
