CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 7, 2007 — The Department of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University has announced that Samurdhi “Sam” Jayaweera, a Southeast senior, has been named “Recreation Services Employee of the Month” for July.

The Employee of the Month award is given to student employees working with the Department of Recreation Services at Southeast. The award recognizes outstanding achievement with student employees and their ability to go beyond normal duties.

Jayaweera is a departmental office employee and a newer student employee within the department. Starting in mid-summer with the program, she has gone above and beyond the normal call of duty in filling additional shifts on staff, doing maintenance in and around the office, staying late and coming in early.

“She has been a great addition to out staff,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreation Services.

Jayaweera, a native of Sri Lanka, is majoring in athletic trainer and dance. She hopes, one day, to be an athletic trainer for a professional sports team or a dance company. Jayaweera will receive an embroidered travel duffle from the department as a reward and a thank you for a job well done.
