Jazz Concert Planned for May 6 at Buckner’s Brewery

The Jazz Lab Band and the Studio Jazz Ensemble of Southeast Missouri State University will perform a concert from 8 to 11 p.m. May 6 at Buckner’s Brewery.

The bands will present a three-set concert containing only the best in “Big Band Jazz,” including the music of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Pat Metheny, Sammy Nestico, Bobby Shew, Tom Kubis, Buddy Rich and Gordon Goodwin.

This free concert will feature the talents of the best jazz musicians at Southeast, along with some of the area’s finest jazz performers. The Southeast Jazz Lab Band will perform “Scott’s Place,” “Mr. Casua,” “Fast Cars and Crazy Women,” “Tribute to the Duke,” “Basie, Straight Ahead,” “Basie’s Barbeque,” “Lullaby for Basie” and “Alright, OK, You Win.”

The Southeast Studio Jazz Ensemble will perform “Count Bubba,” “Blues for Stephanie,” “A Time for Love,” “Mueva los Huesos,” “Always and Forever,” “In A Mellow Tone,” “Only The Greatest,” “Told You So,” “Samba De Los Me,” “A Warm Breeze,” “Blue” and “Sing, Sang, Sung.”
