CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Nov. 29, 2010– Southeast Missouri State University’s Jazz Lab and Studio Jazz ensembles will perform Friday, Dec. 3, at Buckner Brewing Company in downtown Cape Girardeau.
The ensembles will perform from 8 to 11 p.m. The performance coincides with the final “First Friday” of the year program.
Studio Jazz EnsembleSoutheast’s premier big band, the Studio Jazz Ensemble returns to Buckner’s, playing some of their favorite tunes. This performance will include many holiday favorites as arranged for big band such as “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “The Christmas Song,” “Let It Snow” and “Winter Wonderland,” plus many more. The show will feature music for the big band which traditionally includes saxophones, trumpets, trombones and rhythm section. Featured students include drumset soloist Brandon Harvey, a sophomore music major; saxophonist and Concerto competition winner Ethan Flood a junior music major; guitarist Bryndon Lee, a freshman industrial engineering major; tenor sax soloist Spencer Day, a junior music major; trumpeter Nathan Nall, a sophomore music major; trombonist Matt Gates, a junior music major; and Geoff Huff on alto sax, a senior music major.
Jazz Lab BandAlso performing at the concert will be Southeast’s Jazz Lab Band. This band is comprised of both music and non-music majors and will be playing a variety of jazz compositions including “Mack the Knife,” “A Christmas Medley,” “Cottontail,” “It Might As Well Be Spring,” and “Blues for Johnny.” This portion of the program will be quite exciting as well, with solos by saxophonist Sam Harris, a freshman computer science major; trombonist Nathan Scheffler, a sophomore music major; and guitarist Joe Stacy, a junior art major.
