Jazz Ensembles to Perform at Buckner’s Brewpub Dec. 7

The Southeast Missouri State University Jazz Ensemble will perform Dec. 7 at Buckner’s Brewpub.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Dec. 3, 2007 —The Southeast Missouri State University Studio Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab Band will perform at Buckner’s Brewpub from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday evening, Dec. 7. 

These ensembles are led by Robert Conger, associate professor in the Department of Music.

The night will begin with a jazz combo made up of various band members including Marcus Verrett (bass), Alex Bettinger (drums), Michael Harrer (piano), and will play a few jazz standards.  The Jazz Lab Band will continue the performance with several seasonal selections and some straight ahead jazz tunes featuring other band members, including Chris Aarns (saxophone), Justin Martin (trumpet), Jon Poston (guitar) and Bryan Cassell (sax). 

The Studio Jazz Ensemble, Southeast’s premier jazz big band made up of mostly music majors from Southeast Missouri State University, will close out the evening.  They will perform some swinging seasonal music, including “Switch in Time,” “Blue Bossa” and “Norwegian Wood.”
