CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Dec. 1, 2015 — Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Music will present a free jazz big band performance at noon on Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the University Center, coinciding with holiday festivities presented by the University Center staff.
This jazz performance will feature both holiday and jazz music and include the Jazz Lab band and Southeast’s premier jazz ensemble, Studio Jazz. The Jazz Lab band will perform compositions by Frank Mantooth, Carl Strommen, Curtis Fuller and Mel Torme and feature student soloists Bill Reed of Festus, Missouri, trombone, a senior cybersecurity major; Tyler Tuschhoff of Cape Girardeau, trumpet, a senior music composition major; and Dustin Haigler of De Soto, Missouri, piano, a junior music performance major; among others. The Studio Jazz Ensemble will play compositions by Bill Holman, Willie Maiden, and feature student soloists Andrew Davis of Nashville, Illinois, trombone, a junior music education major; Steven Watkins of Oak Ridge, Missouri, saxophone/flute, a senior music performance major; and Nick Smentkowski of Cape Girardeau, bass, a junior music performance major; among many others. Both groups will be led by the Director of Jazz at Southeast, Dr. Robert Conger.
