Jeffery Sworn in as New Student Regent

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Feb. 26, 2004 – India Jeffery of St. Louis, a Southeast Missouri State University junior from North St. Louis County, Mo., was sworn in today as the student representative to the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents.

The oath of office was administered by the Honorable David Dolan, circuit judge of the 33rd Judicial Circuit in Scott County.  Gov. Bob Holden appointed Jeffery to the Board on Dec. 31.  Jeffery’s term will expire on May 1, 2005.

A nursing student and a junior at Southeast Missouri State, Jeffery is the program advisor in the Office of Minority Student Programs at Southeast.  She is president of the Association of Black Collegians, a mentor in the Peer Mentor Program and a Presidential Ambassador.  She has participated in Southeast’s Emerging Leaders program, is an orientation leader and served on the McNair Search Committee.  A graduate of Hazelwood East High School,

Jeffery was awarded the DeVerne Calloway Scholarship and Minority Student Matching Success Award.

Jeffery replaces Laura Hockensmith, whose term as student regent on the Board has expired.
