John and Ann Shelton Music Education Scholarship Established through Southeast Missouri University Foundation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., April 22, 2005 ᾰ The John and Ann Shelton Music Education Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

The scholarship will be awarded to a music education major who has been admitted to the education program or is in his second semester of his sophomore year. The music education faculty at Southeast will award the scholarship. 

The scholarship, which is renewable, will be awarded when the fund is fully endowed.

Shelton was employed by Southeast from 1962 to 1998. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music and music education, both from Murray State University, and a master of music degree from the American Conservatory in Chicago. He earned a doctorate from the George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. Shelton taught in the music education area, as well as studio and class piano, at Southeast for 36 years. He also started the Choral Union ensemble.

Mrs. Shelton was a public school teacher for five years in Kentucky and Tennessee. She taught private piano for many years at home and also for the Southeast Missouri Music Academy.

Dr. and Mrs. Shelton are the parents of three children.
