CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 21, 2015 –The Southeast Missouri State University River Campus 2015-2016 Touring Series kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall with “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
Earl and Margie Holland, for whom the Earl and Margie School of Visual and Performing Arts is named, have selected this production as their special choice event this season at the River Campus.
One of the most enduring shows of all time, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is the irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel’s favorite son, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. The first collaboration of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber (“Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats”) and lyricist Tim Rice (“Jesus Christ Superstar” and “The Lion King”), “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” blends pop, country and rock into an uplifting, technicolored story of biblical proportions.
According to Bob Cerchio, assistant director of Southeast’s Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts, “There was something more than luck behind our getting this show to Cape Girardeau. It was an on-again, off-again affair, mostly because several different national Broadway tours kept moving on the calendar. It was like a terrible game of dominos. But the agent and I persevered, and eventually we were able to bring one of the most popular Broadway shows ever to the Bedell Performance Hall!”
“Bible study was never so much fun!” wrote the Ft. Myers Daily News in a review of the production. Another review by the Sunday Times noted, “A brilliant celebration of words, music and colour.”
