July 27, 2006 – The Kennett Area Higher Education Center (KAHEC) has announced several back to school events in conjunction with the start of the fall 2006 semester.

A student orientation session called “Southeast at Your Service,” is planned for Aug. 8 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and again from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at KAHEC. The session will originate from the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center and will be broadcast by ITV to the KAHEC. The orientation will cover a variety of topics including academic information on the University Studies Program, academic responsibilities and information on the Student Transitions Initiative. Other topics to be covered will include Student Financial Services, Career Linkages, Southeast Key and Portal, Kent Library and other information about services and resources the University has to offer. Students will be given an opportunity to ask questions after each session.

Marsha Blanchard, director of the Kennett Area Higher Education Center (KAHEC) says, “Students who attend will learn a lot about the services that are offered right here in Kennett. We had a lot of fun last year, and we’re expecting a good turnout this year. We encourage all new students to attend.”

Blanchard said students attending the “Southeast at Your Service” program also will receive a free Rowdy the Redhawk T-shirt and Southeast planner. Returning students will receive the shirt and planner when they pick up their textbooks.

Students may pick up books on Aug. 14 in order to prepare for first day of classes on Aug. 21.

Blanchard says KAHEC will offer about 115 classes this fall at a variety of times in order to accommodate students’ schedules.
