CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Oct. 18, 2013 – A woman who kayaked the Mississippi River from its headwaters in Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico will share experiences about her journey in a presentation Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Southeast Missouri State University.
Nancy Scheibe, a Minnesota author and adventurer, will present “Grace, Guts and Gators” at 11 a.m. in Crisp Hall Room 125. The event is free and open to the public.
Scheibe is the author of a trilogy of books about her expedition. The paddling journey was completed in three sections in 2004, 2007 and 2011. Along the way, she interviewed women and documented those stories in her books along with the adventure and dangers found paddling the river.
Scheibe will discuss the importance of women’s stories and how she made her dream happen and how others can make their dream come true too.
Following the presentation, a booksigning will be held, and Scheibe’s books will be available. They are: “Waves of Wisdom: Guts, Grace and Gators on the Lower Mississippi River,” “Ripples of Wisdom: A Journey through Mud and Truth” and “Water Women Wisdom: Voices from the Upper Mississippi.” For more information Scheibe and her kayaking adventure, visit www.RipplesOfWisdom.com.
The presentation is sponsored by the College of Health and Human Services in Southeast’s Department of Social Work.
