Mozelle Cloud Jarvis Scholarship Endowed Through Foundation

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

Feb. 4, 2009 – The Mozelle Cloud Jarvis Scholarship has been endowed through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

The late Mrs. Jarvis and her daughter, Dianne Jarvis of Sikeston, Mo., made a gift to the Foundation to establish the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Sikeston High School who is enrolled at Southeast Missouri State University or at Southeast’s Sikeston campus. First preference will be given to a student interested in the performing arts. A minimum 2.0 grade point average is required. The University Scholarship Committee will select the recipient.

Jarvis was born Nov. 17, 1915, in Okolona, Ark., to the late Charlie and Jessie Cloud. On April 17, 1937, she married Earl Jarvis, who preceded her in death. They were in the restaurant business in Hope, Ark., for several years before moving to Blytheville, Ark., and then to Sikeston, Mo., where they operated the restaurant in the Dunn Hotel. They later owned and operated Jarvis Motor Company and the El Capri Best Western Motel.

Jarvis was active in the community and was chosen Sikeston’s Woman of the Year. She also was active in her children’s lives, having served as Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and as room mother for all three of her children when they were in elementary school.

She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, where she served on the church board and was a deacon. She also was chairman of the Women’s Fellowship and sang in the choir.

Jarvis died Nov. 22.
