“Museums in the age of Repatriation: Anachronism or Archive” will be the topic of the annual Thomas Beckwith Memorial Archaeology Lecture April 15 at Southeast Missouri State University.
Dr. Joe Watkins, professor of anthropology at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque, will present the lecture at 7 p.m. in the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum gallery. The museum is located in Memorial Hall, Room 122.
The lecture is free and open to the public. A book signing and reception will follow.
Watkins is both an archaeologist and consulting tribal archaeologist, and a member of the Choctaw nation in Oklahoma. His heritage and experiences give him a unique insight on archaeology and museum interpretation in the 21st century.
The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum and the Department of Foreign Languages and Anthropology at Southeast are co-hosting the lecture.
