The Department of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University has increased membership rates for non-student members of the Student Recreation Centers.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 16, 2007 — The Department of Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University has increased membership rates for non-student members of the Student Recreation Centers.

Rates in all membership categories raised were effective Aug. 15.

“Nobody likes to raise rates, but increases in utility costs and wage personnel required us to make this change,” said Troy Vaughn, director of Recreation Services.

Existing membership categories remain the same, and as soon as the Student Aquatic Center comes on line in December, two new membership categories will be in effect:

All-Inclusive Membership – Will include full membership to use the Student Recreation Centers and the Student Aquatic Center during open recreation hours.

Aquatics-Only Membership – Will include full membership to use only the Student Aquatic Center during open recreation hours. “Membership rates with Recreation Services had not increased in six years, so we found this necessary to keep up with rising costs,” Vaughn said.  Affiliated, alumni and community members now can only purchase limited or full Student Recreation Center memberships. Depending on the opening date for Student Aquatic Center, the plan is to permit free “preview” times for a few weeks in the Student Aquatic Center prior to the spring 2008 membership period, Vaughn said.

Previously, the department had announced a change in the “Guest Pass” policy for entry into the Student Recreation Centers. Students and members can bring guests in for $5 per visit, and no free passes are available. Guests must have a photo ID to enter the facility and now may also self-sponsor. Students can use their Redhawks ID for entry into the Student Recreation Centers on campus. Students have access to use the Student Recreation Centers if they are paying the student fee on the Cape Girardeau campus.
