Nine Students Awarded Incentive Scholarships to Attend Malden Campus

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Sept. 22, 2008 – Nine area 2008 graduates have been awarded one-year Crisp Bootheel Education Center (CBEC) Incentive Scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University-Malden.

Each full scholarship is valued at up to $4,500 and will cover the cost of incidental fees for up to 30 credit hours of coursework taken at the Southeast regional campus and textbook rental fees.

This year’s scholarships and their recipients include:

Opal A. Baskin Endowed Scholarship:  Brittany Wilson of Bloomfield, Mo., is the daughter of Monnie and Shaundous Jones, and is a 2008 graduate of Bloomfield R-14 High School.  During her high school years, she was active in Skills USA, Science Club and Pep Club.  She is majoring in early childhood education at Southeast Missouri State University-Malden.

Sheriff Jim Elliot Memorial Scholarship:  Kaleigh Ellsworth of Malden, Mo., is the daughter of Paul and Regina Beck, and Pet Ellsworth, all of Malden, and is a 2008 graduate of Malden High School.  During her high school years, she was active in SADD and BETA Club and has received the gold medal in science and computer class.  She is majoring in criminal justice at Southeast.

First National Bank Scholarship:  Dustin Cluck of Bernie, Mo., is the son of Phil and Brenda Cluck of Bernie, Mo., and is a 2008 graduate of Bernie High School.  During his high school years, he was active in Future Business Leaders of America, Senior Beta Club, Future Farmers of America, band, and played baseball and basketball.  He is majoring in graphic design at Southeast.

John A. Howell Bootheel Education Center Scholarship:  Mitchell Burchell of Clarkton, Mo., is the son of Wanda and Philip Crowe of Clarkton, Mo., and Gary Burchell of Jackson, Mo., and is a 2008 graduate of Clarkton High School.  During his high school years, he was active in baseball, basketball, Beta Club, Cap Club, FCA and FTA.  Burchell is majoring in general studies at Southeast Missouri State University-Malden.  Upon completion of his bachelor’s degree he plans to attend Southeast Missouri Hospital’s radiological technician program.

Val and Helen Mitchell Scholarship:  Heather Knotts of Campbell, Mo., is the daughter of Sherry Frederick of Campbell, Mo., and Steve Knotts of Freeburg, Ill.  She is a 2008 graduate of Campbell High School.  During her high school years, she was active in Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, FCCLA and Student Council.  She was president of her sophomore class and vice president of her freshman class.  Knotts is majoring in nursing.

Jean Provance Memorial Scholarship:  Matthew Smith of Risco, Mo., is the son of Thomas and Sherry Smith of Risco, Mo., and is a 2008 graduate of Risco High School.  During his high school years, he was active in Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Senior Beta Club, and played baseball and basketball all four years.  He is majoring in agricultural business at Southeast.

Bootheel Education Center Advisory Council Scholarship:   Justin Hyten of Dexter, Mo., is the son of Kenny and Sherry Busick of Dexter, Mo., and Ronnie and Shirley Hyten of Essex, Mo.  He is a 2008 graduate of Richland R-I High School.  During his high school years, he was first chair and vice president of band and secretary of Future Business Leaders of America.  He is majoring in psychology at Southeast.

Bootheel Education Center Advisory Council Scholarship:  John Mansfield of Kennett, Mo., is the son of Dempsey and Sarah Mansfield of Kennett, Mo., and is a 2008 graduate of Holcomb High School.  During his high school years, he was active in Future Farmers of America, Art Club, and band, and was a Teacher Educational Assistant.  He is majoring in management at Southeast.
