Open auditions for Southeast Missouri State University’s Department of Music production of Pauline Viardot’s opera “Cinderella” will be held Aug. 22.
Auditions are open to all Southeast students and will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, in the Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast’s River Campus.
Those auditioning must prepare one classical song, aria or golden age music theatre selection, in any language and provide sheet music.
Callbacks will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, and will include assigned music and cold readings. Students selected for the cast must register for Opera Workshop.
“Cinderella” is a charming and intimate setting of Perrault’s fairy tale. First performed in 1904, the opera is filled with beautiful melodies reminiscent of Chopin and Tchaikovsky. The story of Cinderella and her prince, complete with slipper, evil step-sisters, and an effervescent fairy guiding the path to true love is presented in English and French with orchestra, subtitles, choreography, sets and costumes, and an extra ballroom scene.
