CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 16, 2006 — Community actors, faculty members and students of all majors are encouraged to audition for Southeast Missouri State University’s production of Michael Frayn’s “Noises Off.”
Actors interested in auditioning should prepare a one- to two-minute contemporary comic monologue, and be prepared for cold readings. There are parts available for five males and four females. Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 22. If necessary, callbacks will take place on Aug. 23. Show dates are at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29-30, at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5-7, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 8.
“Noises Off,” referred to by some as the funniest play ever written, is one of the most popular modern comedies running today. Set as a play within a play, “Noises Off” details the hilarious and rowdy mishaps of an ill-prepared (and indeed ill-equipped) theatre company struggling to put on a show called “Nothing On.” “Noises Off” is sure to have audiences rolling with laughter as the often chaotic and sometimes ridiculous backstage workings of theatre are exposed.
