Orchestra Presenting ‘Symphonic Splendors’ March 6


Concert to feature winners of Concerto, Aria Competition

“Symphonic Splendors,” the third offering in the 2006-2007 Commerce Bank Symphony Orchestra concert series, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 6 in Academic Auditorium.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Feb. 19, 2007 — “Symphonic Splendors,” the third offering in the 2006-2007 Commerce Bank Symphony Orchestra concert series, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 6 in Academic Auditorium.

The concert will feature the masterful “Symphony No. 3” by the American composer Roy Harris and the winners of the Concerto and Aria competition.  Sophomore flutist Candice Summers will perform Mozart’s “Andante in C Major,” senior John Mazar will play the “Cello Concerto #1” by Camille Saint-Saens, and the “Trombone Concerto” by Gordon Jacob will be played by senior Vincent Rapini.

Opening the program will be the much-loved “Jupiter Symphony” of Mozart, and the concert will conclude with the stirring music for Shakespeare’s “Henry the Fifth” by British composer William Walton.

The Southeast Symphony will be under the direction of guest conductor Paul Thompson for this concert.
