CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., May 14, 2013 — Hilary Peterson, instructor of theatre and dance at Southeast Missouri State University, has been elected by her colleagues to the National Board of Directors of the American College Dance Festival Association for the Central region.
Her three-year term of service begins July 1 and runs through June 30, 2016.
The American College Dance Festival Association’s (ACDFA) primary focus is to support and promote the wealth of talent and creativity prominent throughout college and university dance departments. ACDFA’s sponsorship of regional conferences and the bi-annual national dance festival are the primary means for college and university dance programs to perform outside their own academic setting, receive adjudicator feedback and be exposed to the diversity of the national college dance world.
Board members are responsible for steering national ACDFA policy and are instrumental to the health and development of dance in the academy. ACDFA board members are asked to attend the annual Board of Directors meeting as well as their regional conferences.
“Hilary is most deserving of this honor,” said Rhonda Weller-Stilson, director and associate dean of the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. “She is dedicated to the idea of sharing college and university dance with colleagues and students. Under her lead, Southeast has participated for years in ACDFA festivals. It has been a marvelous experience for our students to meet college dancers around the country and to present their work on other stages.”
