Pope Appointed to Missouri State Committee for Professional Counselors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Jan. 3, 2006 — Dr. Verl Pope, associate professor of counseling at Southeast Missouri State University, has been appointed by Gov. Matt Blunt to the Missouri State Committee for Professional Counselors.

The appointment is subject to a Senate confirmation hearing. The appointment is for a four-year term ending on Aug. 28, 2009.

The State Committee for Professional Counselors oversees all Licensed Professional Counselors in Missouri.

Pope has taught and supervised graduate students in counseling at Southeast Missouri State University since 1996. He has served as program coordinator, interim associate dean, and assistant to the dean for accreditation. He co-chaired the University’s National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) committee.  He also serves as the Campus Liaison to the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) and has been instrumental in obtaining and maintaining full accreditation for the counseling master’s degree programs.

Pope serves on the national exam development committee for the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC). He also maintains a small, but active, private practice, working with individuals, couples and families on a variety of issues. He also consults with area probation and parole offices, attorneys, courts and schools.
