Recreation Services Offering Variety of Programs this Winter

Jan. 17, 2008 – Recreation Services at Southeast Missouri State University this winter is offering a number of programs, including a youth soccer clinic, a first Fridays parent’s night out, and youth, parent-child and adult swim lessons. Youth Soccer ClinicA Youth Soccer Clinic is scheduled for four Saturdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 2, 9, 16 and 23.  The clinic is designed for all skills levels from beginner to advanced. The clinic takes soccer out of the winter elements, by providing instruction and playing opportunities indoor to prepare for the spring soccer season.  Instructors will provide basic lessons in passing, shooting, ball control, defense, goalkeeping, game play, teamwork, sportsmanship and more. This fun, safe and educational program is designed for children ages 4-13 years. The cost is $35 per child for members and $45 per child for non-members.  First Fridays – Parent’s Night OutDuring the first Friday of each month, Recreation Services will be planning games and activities for children ages 4-14 years old. Parent’s Nights Out are scheduled for Feb. 1, March 7, April 4 and May 2. Parents or guardians may drop off their children at the Student Recreation Center-North from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. to enjoy a variety of activities.  Opportunities to swim in the new Student Aquatic Center will be available. Whether you are looking to enjoy a dinner without the children or just wanting to give them the opportunity to play at the Student Recreation Center, your children will enjoy themselves, and you will enjoy knowing they are in a fun and safe environment.  Counselors will be trained Southeast Missouri State students.  The cost is $15 for one child and $10 for each additional child. Registration forms must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the Thursday before any of the first Friday dates.  Youth Swim LessonsYouth swim lessons are being offered for children 14 years of age and younger at the Student Aquatic Center.  Swimming instruction will be provided by the Student Aquatic Center staff with low student-to-teacher ratio.  Youth swim lessons will be offered on Saturdays for five-week sessions. The first session is scheduled for Saturdays Feb. 2-March 1. Lessons will be offered from 9:45-10:45 a.m. and from 11 a.m.-noon. Registration for that session is Jan. 12-Feb. 1. The second session is planned for Saturdays March 29-April 26. Lessons will be offered in the second session from 9:45-10:45 a.m. and from 11 a.m.-noon. Registration for the second session will be held March 8-28.  Parent/Child Swim Lessons Parent/child swim lessons will be offered for infants, toddlers and young children (ages 6 months and up) who need parental involvement Feb. 2-March 1 and March 29-April 26 at the Student Aquatic Center. Swimming instruction will be provided by the Student Aquatic Center staff with low student-to-teacher ratio.  Swim lessons are offered on Saturdays for five-week consecutive sessions. Registration for the first session is Feb. 2-March 1. Lessons will be offered from 9:45-10:30 a.m. and from 11-11:45 a.m. Registration for the second session is slated for March 8-28. Those lessons will be offered on Saturdays from 9:45-10:30 a.m. and from 11-11:45 a.m.

Adult Swim Lessons

Adult swim lessons can be scheduled on an individual basis at the Student Aquatic Center. Lessons can be tailored to fit any swimmer. A one-to-one instructor-to-student ratio will be provided  Group lessons are available upon request. Sessions are 30 minutes in length and are only offered during open recreation hours in the Student Aquatic Center.  Fees are $15 per session for members and $18 per session for non-members. Five sessions are $60 for members and $75 for non-members. Ten sessions can be purchased for $110 for members or $140 for non-members.
