Risco Student Awarded Jean Provance Scholarship to Attend Malden Campus

Matthew Smith of Risco, Mo., has been awarded the Jean Provance Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University-Malden.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

May 12, 2008 – Matthew Smith of Risco, Mo., has been awarded the Jean Provance Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University-Malden for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Jean Provance Scholarship is a one-year Crisp Bootheel Education Center (CBEC) Incentive Scholarship valued at $4,500 and covers the cost of incidental, general and textbook rental fees for up to 30 Southeast credit hours per academic year at the Southeast regional campus.

Smith is the son of Thomas and Sherry Smith of Risco, Mo., and is a 2008 graduate of Risco High School. During his high school years, he was active in baseball, basketball, History Day, Student Council and Cadet, was president of Future Business Leaders of America, and treasurer of Senior Beta and the junior class. Smith plans on majoring in agribusiness at Southeast Missouri State University-Malden and would like to pursue a career in conservation.
