CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,
Sept. 10, 2009 – The 2009 River City Music Festival, Sept. 25-26, will again benefit scholarships at Southeast Missouri State University.
“Supporting and enhancing the development of young musicians and providing a venue for the efforts is what we are all about,” said Mary Ramsey, director for the River City Music Festival. “Our goal is to provide scholarships to Southeast Missouri State University and grants to local area schools so music education can continue.”
This year’s festival will benefit the William Shivelbine-Eddie Keys Music Scholarship that is awarded each semester to a music education major at Southeast.
This year’s festival will showcase a diverse selection of musical genres from rock-n-roll to country. With more than 30 artists playing more than two full days, the festival is expected to be another memorable event.
For 12 years, the festival has aimed to offer something for each fan, and this year is no different. With a cross-cultural line-up rich with pop, country, folk, bluegrass, blues and more, there is something fun for the whole family, including the return of the Guitar Hero Competition and the Rock & Roll Fashion Show. This year’s beach party themed festival will also include street performers, as well as a new public speaking competition sponsored by “Globalize Your Generation.” Festival prices are $8 for Friday night, $10 for an all-day pass on Saturday ($8 after 6 p.m.), or a two-day pass for $15. Southeast students with an I.D. will receive a $1 discount. Those who wear Hawaiian attire, who are not Southeast students, will also receive a $1 entry discount. The 13th Annual River City Music Festival is generously sponsored by Port Cape Girardeau, Breakaway’s, Rude Dog Pub, Rhymer’s, McGinty’s Jewelers, Buckner Brewing Co., Hempies, Best Buy and Cape Printing.
The festival is in need of volunteers. Those working three hour shifts will get into the festival free for that day. To volunteer, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
