Robert L. Mitchell, Sr. Endowed Scholarship Established at Southeast

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.,

May 20, 2005 – The Robert L. Mitchell, Sr. Endowed Scholarship has been established through the Southeast Missouri University Foundation.

The Robert L. Mitchell, Sr. Family and Mitchell Insurance, Inc., made a gift of $10,000 to endow the scholarship in memory of their father, Robert L. Mitchell, Sr. The family was recognized for their gift to the Foundation at the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center’s (SAHEC) benefit reception April 30 at SAHEC.

The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of Sikeston High School with a minimum 2.5 grade point average or to a currently enrolled college student with a 2.0 grade point average taking six to 12 credit hours at Southeast Missouri State University. The recipient must demonstrate financial need, be of good character and be active in his church and community, or have family relying on his support. The Sikeston Area Higher Education Center Scholarship Committee will select the recipient. The scholarship is renewable.

Members of the Mitchell family say their father felt education and consistent effort would open the door of opportunity for anyone. They said he believed the Sikeston Area Higher Education Center provided these opportunities to students of all ages that might not be able to attend college on a traditional campus. Family members say he hoped the recipients of this scholarship, through their efforts, would improve the quality of their life and the life of their family.
