Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Southeast Missouri Regional Museum Seeking Volunteer Docents

CAPE GIRARDEAU,

July 19, 2007 – The Rosemary Berkel and Harry L. Crisp II Southeast Missouri Regional Museum is seeking volunteer docents as the new facility prepares to open at Southeast Missouri State University’s River Campus this fall.

“Docents will donate their time and skills in assisting the Museum in conducting tours for audiences of all levels,” said Ellen Hahs curator of education with the Museum.

Docents will be asked to participate in free training sessions after which monthly volunteer meetings will be held to plan, discuss, refresh and learn new information concerning the Museum. Docent training is being offered in two upcoming series — a September weekend series and in an October weekday series.

The weekend series for interested docents begins Sept. 15. The schedule is as follows:

Weekend ClassesSession 1 ᾰ Saturday, Sept.  15,  2-5 p.m.Introduction and Overview, Museum Theatre, and InterpretationSession 2 ᾰ Sunday, Sept. 16, 2-5 p.m.Kiosks, Permanent Gallery, and Calendar of Museum Programs Session 3 ᾰ Saturday, Sept. 22, 2-5 p.m.Temporary Gallery, History of Museum, and CollectionsSession 4 ᾰ Sunday, Sept. 23, 2-5 p.m.Guest Speaker: Dr. Frank Nickell, director of the Center for Regional History, will discuss the history of Cape Girardeau, the University and River Campus.  Practice tours will be conducted and a docent graduation party will be held.
