Scholarship Fundraiser Takes Children on a Festive Train Ride

Communication Studies students will host the Santa Express Christmas Train.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., November 17, 2015 – COMMrades and Lambda Pi Eta at Southeast Missouri State University will host a Santa Express Christmas Train on the St. Louis Iron Mountain and Southern Railway in Jackson, Missouri, on Sunday, Dec. 6, to raise money for a scholarship.

Volunteers will lead Christmas carols and games for everyone to join. Homemade cookies and treats, hot chocolate and water will be available for purchase.

COMMrades and Lambda Pi Eta are hosting the Santa Express ride to raise scholarship funds. All of the profits from the event will go directly to a communication studies scholarship.

Faculty co-advisor for COMMrades and Lambda Pi Eta Jeanne Harris said, “We have contacted the North Pole to let Santa know that we are having a special Christmas celebration, asking him to join us to visit and take pictures with the children and read the Polar Express to them.”

The train will board at 6 p.m. and return at 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are available for $15 each, and just 150 are available. All riders two and older need a ticket, and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets may be purchased in the Communication Studies Office in Academic Hall, Room 213. It is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
